About Fran

Fran I’m Fran and I’m a Londoner. I was born in Alexandra Park Nursing Home, close to Ally Pally, as Alexandra Palace is known to the locals. It’s also called the ‘People’s Palace’ because it’s not a palace at all but a leisure centre. It stands on a hill in North London and is home to the studio where the BBC made their very first television broadcast.

I grew up in leafy South London, spent my student years near the Portobello Road and now I’ve come home to roost in a Victorian house at the foot of Ally Pally once again.

Along the way I’ve spent some time living and working in Tokyo and travelling round Japan. Now I’m back in London but I still go to Japan regularly to see my friends, eat wonderful Japanese food, and do research for the Josie Clark in Japan mystery series.

I also have a blog, Sequins and Cherry Blossom, where I write about London living, especially historic houses, art, flowers and Japanese food.
